Dr. Jaewoong Choi was born and raised in Seoul, Korea and moved to Bay Area during his high school. He graduated from Monta Vista high school and advanced to University of California at Berkeley, where studied Molecular and Cell Biology with emphasis in Neuroscience. He was accepted to University of California at San Francisco, School of Dentistry.
He received Health Professional Scholarship from the U.S. Army for his dental school. Upon graduation, he was selected for Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program in Army Dental Activity at Fort Benning, Georgia. He honed his knowledge and skills in all fields of general dentistry including endodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery to make him an excellent general dentist. During his 5 years in the Army, he was stationed in Georgia, Korea and Louisiana. A lot of young American soldiers needed root canal therapy and he gained tremendous experience by providing root canal therapy to those soldiers, yet he was humbled at the complexity of the root canals and the art of root canal therapy and decided to seek further education in endodontics.
After his active duty service, Dr. Choi was accepted to post graduate Endodontic Residency program at VA Long Beach and received his specialty certificate in Endodontics.
Dr. Choi still serves in the Army Reserve as a dental officer in 352nd Combat Support Hospital, Mountain View, CA. Dr. Choi is also fluent in Korean.
He teaches at UCSF once a week in undergraduate student clinic and post graduate residency program.
When he is not working, he loves to spend time with his wife Soyoung and two little daughters, Clara and Stella. He also enjoys hiking, traveling, soccer and badminton.
